S-Model from Poland did one, half resin/half vacu.
DES had one, too.
I have all those kits (even the Tonda one) unbuilt but I agree that the AER is the less attractive.
If you find the Armada book on Gaz "jeeps", there are fine plans and you can use the Tamiya kit as a base.
