Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Hi Dan-
I have 5-Star's "Smialy" Polish armoured locomotive. Not a bad kit, a little basic on the details although, I would not take that to mean something that should be there is not. I mean the real thing had very little detail overall so, the kit is as detailed as it should be. My biggest complaint is the total lack of instructions! The instructions consist of grainy, hard to make out, black and white photographs of the kit at various stages of assembly. There is a fairly extensive photo-etch sheet by Part which has all the parts numbered. Not once do the instructions refer to these numbers to show you which p/e goes where. Very careful and intense study of the instructions eventualy lead me to figure it all out. Well, maby not quite all as there is some p/e pieces I simply cannot find in the photographs and will therefore be unable to place them. Overall, I'd say the kit is not to bad and will make a very interesting subject, it is just the instructions I take issue with. If you have good reference material to help you with your kit, I'd say go for it as it appears to be not very complex. I would say you'll need alot of experience with interpreting instructions though!
HTH-
