I'm returning to the hobby after a 23-year absence from it. The worst model I've encountered in this process is the Alan Wespe. What a mess! The instructions are unbelievably unclear, and, more often than not, the pieces don't fit together well. Assembling the kit was torturous.
I've rebuilt some of the Heller, Italeri, and Tamiya kits that I remember from the 70s and 80s, and they are dreamlike in comparison -- especially the Tamiya ones. I can't wait to see what their more recent kits are like.
