The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too. |

Commanders still sells their Christie conversion for the Italeri/Zvezda BT-5 kit. However, for the $$ it is not very good and the turret is the wrong shape, so half of what you are getting is not usable.
I would recommend the old Profile booklet on the Christies (and the book on the BT's for that matter). It is useful for the conversion.
I would just get the BT-5 kit and start from there. Basically that gives you 80% of the Christie. You can use the hull wheels and tracks. Cut wheel discs from sheet plastic. You can make a new pointed bow and driver's hatch from sheet plastic. This isn't too hard, especially if you make the hatch closed. You can make the new turret too from plastic sheet or tubing. It is cylendrical.
Possibly the Maquette BT-2 will be of use. It is the BT-5 kit with some new wheels (plus all the old ones) and a couple of crude but usable cylendrical turrets and MG mantlets. Sometimes you can get this kit cheap.
There was a FSM article by Steve Zaloga using the commander's kit as well |
