Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Chris,

The idea of an 'update kit' is excellent. In exchange of a proof of purchase (box side for example), Dragon should mail the update kit for free. Just an idea.

We are in luck (ahum!). There is better (you decide). Apparentely, the upcoming PZ IVD has a lot of extra parts that can be passed on to the E, especially if you work on the early D. Thank you, Dragon. With the exception of the turret...: We remain stuck with the 'old' turret (is it a big deal?). [My scrapbox has a few Italeri turrets. Maybe they can work if I transfer the Dragon details and fix their backplate. Oh well, I might just live with the Dragon turret as is.]

Although I try hard to avoid it, I got caught up in the hype surrounding the release of the E kit. I admired the poster advertizing all the goodies, and the sample kit in the hobby shop. So I got 2 E's. [Tsk, and I never buy 2 same kits at the same time.] Do I regret it? It's a hobby, I try not to feel stupid. So I collected info on the fixes, dropping pieces of text and pictures from various forums in a Word file. After 40 pages (3 megs), that's about it, I found. Hum, not bad for a 'tweak list'.

Let me see, because I am a fan of the Pz IV, I had to have the
Tristar Pz IVD
Dragon Pz IVE (2 kits)
Tristar Pz IVC (I had a good price)
Dragon Pz IVE Vorpanzer (I was curious about the fixes)

So, in the near future, I might get the
Dragon Pz IVD (2 kits, to fix the E's above)
Dragon Pz IVC (while I am at it)

Nope, I won't get the Cyber Hobby Pz IVB (too $$$ for me). A voice tells me 'enough!' (no, no, not my wife*).

This platoon of plastic tanks will complement the (Coree) E conversion project that I started (you guessed it!) just before the Dragon announcement last year. And I am not counting the Tamiya Pz IVs. I prove to myself that one can have more of another tank model than the Tiger 1.

Cheers,

Patrick
