The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too. |

Hi Pete,
as has already been mentioned the Tamiya kit is older and has some detail and dimension flaws. That being said if the point of the club build is to enjoy and explore a new area of modeling, perhaps the best way to go would be to build right out of the box. The Tamiya Carrier is a very good kit for that reason,it's not overly difficult, comes with some decent figures in the upgraded kits, and has some accesories that will fit into the scene you are contemplating.Trying to fix and super detail a 30 year old kit in the alloted time you have left, to bring it up to todays standards would suck the joy out of the project.
Enjoy the kit and the build, get familiar with this site, the various scales and types of armor on the market. I'm sure your skills with aircraft building will stand you in good stead when it comes to growing into the armor field should you get hooked. Many of the older Tamiya kits, while they do show their age are perfect introduction kits because of the engineering quality and ease of assembly of parts. When you have the time, wallet and ambition to truely get insane with detail you will find there are plenty of choices available in the 1/35th scale market.
By building out of the box you should be rewarded with a very good scene and more to the point a pleasant and rewarding introduction to armor.
Thats my 2 cents worth of advice
