Good feedback on the kit. Where did you get it so soon?
For the canvas mantlet cover you can easily make one from plastic grocery bag material, if you can find some in dark green that would be better. Just cut it our with scissors, fold and glue with CA glue. I find working with this stuff a lot easier that wet tissue or epoxy putty.
What references do you have? I have quite a lot if you're interested in some copies :-)
