Jim,
If you want to build a Sherman and still stay with a Soviet theme try DML's M4A2. It's a late war wet storage Sherman with a diesel engine that was sent lend-lease to the Soviets. It's a pretty good kit as far as accessories and dimensional accuracy. There are a few detail items that are bug-a-boos but for a first time Sherman build should do well. I haven't assembled mine so I'm not sure about any fit problems.
