The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too. |

The tracks offer you the option of shortening them. Just test fit them and decide how much tension you want. The Trumpeter Challenger 2 kit had more than its share of problems on its first release. I suspect they got wind of the planned Tamiya kit and were in a terrible rush to get their version out the door first. In its first incarnation, parts of the model actually were incomplete, including much of the turret detail, and the inner and outer wheels were radically different in width. There was an outcry from the consumers and Trumpeter went back and corrected the worst of the problems for the re-release. The wheels still don't quite match in thickness, but the difference is almost unnoticeable (the tires still need to be filed flat in profile, though). Since this version has dust skirts in addition to the armor skirts, the wheels are completely invisible after completion, so I wouldn't sweat it. The missing turret detail was also belatedly added, though pay close attention to the placement of the gun mantlet, as the kit's mounts for the gun trunnions aren't in quite the right place and it can stick out too far. Again, test fit and compare to photos before you cement. Lion Roar offers a very inexpensive brass photoetch set if you'd like to improve it (I wouldn't spend too much on this kit--for the greater outlay, I could get the Tamiya version).
The Kosovo and Operation Telic kits are the updated tooling, as are the Airfix and Hobbycraft versions, which depict a "vanilla" Challenger 2 without the ROMOR applique armor kit. |
