I'm sure you know this modeler’s work (link below) and shows how useful the Tamiya base kit is for upgrading.

1) What do you believe are the high points of the kit?
The only game in town (and conceivably a three in one without the fan-fare)
2) What do you believe are the kit's short comings?
Tamiya’s approach to the kit makes assembly very easy for the novice but there is a lot of work just to get a base model to detail.
3) Do you or have you used after market accessories for the kit?
No but I've been very tempted.
4) Is the vehicle worth redoing in a 21st century way and would you by a newer kit of the Sd. Kfz 232?
Everything is open for renewal. The treatment that AFV/DML has dumped on the 251 halftracks would not be wasted on this topic.
I can imagine a base kit with open vision ports and a partial interior glimpsed through open hatches. The pic is from the site above :-).
