| Subject: | Trumpeter KV-1 Model 10942 Simplified Turret - Heads Up | |
| Date: | May 21, 2006 |
| From: | Neil Stokes | |
For those building or about to build this kit, I came across an apparent error in the Trumpeter kit.
In the change from the original welded turret to the uparmored welded turret (the "simplified" turret as Trumpeter denotes it) the two rear-facing episcopes were relocated to the rear edge of the turret, reducing a blind spot that existed with the original design. This relocation is shown in the plans included in the Tankograd book and is evident in a number of photographs.
It's a fairly easy fix...simply cut off the locating pins for the episcope housings and carefully shave off the episcopes that are molded onto the turret roof. Plug the locating holes and sand smooth.
Relocate the housings, maintaining their angle, so that the rear-most corner of each housing touches the edge of the turret roof. The distance from the edge and the spacing is the same. Then reattach the episcopes themselves within the housings.
I've attached an image of my own model during construction, since this may help to illustrate my point.
Hope this helps...
