I do not think DML ever made an initial Karl Gerat of gun 1 and 2.
This version had 9 road wheels not 11 as the later version.
The correct Friu tracks for the DML kit would then be the late ATL-85 tracks. These are originally designed for the Trumpeter kit. The DML kit has to wide sprockets and (and track links) so you need to make them slightly more narrow to fit.
You are right that the DML kit has many errors and simplifications.
Personally I would not invested much in building it trying to fix much of those errors and shortcommings with aftermarket kits as, the total expences for this would far exceed buying the much better Trumpeter kit. The Part? (ARMO) barrel is real nice - the riffeling goes in the wrong direction, and real thing had about twice as many riffles. On the other hand there is no other good alternatives if you want to replace the barrel. I used it (the Trumpeter version) on my Trumpeter kit.
