The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too. |

A lot is being made of the flattened area beneath the cupola on the left rear side of the M3 turret. Some reviews or comments are suggesting it is an outright error, while others are saying the feature is exaggerated. I have not seen the kit firsthand, so I cannot comment as to how pronounced this flattened area is--or should be. However, it is not really that uncommon.
In Squadron/Signal's "M3 Lee/Grant," by Jim Mesko, there are turrets on pages 7, 22, 23, 31, 41, 44, and 47 that show evidence of the flattened section.
In "U.S. Armor Camouflage and Markings" also by Jim Mesko, there is a picture of "Kentucky" on page 45 that suggests that flat area.
It also appears on an M3 in British service in Burma on page 29 of "American Armor" by Simon Forty.
These pictures are all period photos, so the quality is variable. The feature is more apparent in some than in others.
Just an FYI....
Tim
