Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

I agree that 2mm is an awfully small amount to see with the naked eye and basing off of drawings can be troublesome - trust me I'm a CADD Civil Engineering designer, your drawings are only as good as the base info you use and your own skill. And admittably if the drawings you are working off of are not 'serious' engineering drawings where liability and professional status could suffer (like an architect designing a building that falls or a civil engineer having a bridge collapse) What real downside is to them being a hair off? A penstroke or plotted line of the wrong size can cause an error like this.

But on a more profound level....couldn't it just be the Academy suspension was designed for a tank with no fuel, ammo or crew in it? There are numerous aircraft kits that have thier landing gear too extended because the designer didn't know that the oleos compress under load. There are a couple of 1/48th FW-190s that have that problem, beautiful kits but just a bit stalky. Now with those kits I admit I can see the differance because the angle of the fuselage to the ground is off, but 2mm on a 35th scale tank would mean the suspension puts the hull about 3 inches in real size give or take off, if you were of the same size 1:1 next to a real Lee could you tell by looking that it's 2-3 inches taller than it should be???

Happy Modeling
Matt
