I don't have the book, but maybe I can offer the source for your differences.
Yes, there were two different cast housings made with the centered return roller. However, I believe that the housings themselves had the same basic dimensions. However, at some point there was a spacer added to raise the return roller. This was quite similar to the pillow blocks added to the straight arm style M4 suspensions. Perhaps the tank in question has one unit with the spacer, and one without?
Also, I'm not certain, but it looks like the Academy kit has the spacer installed already.
