Paul, I believe it's a bit more complicated than that. Apparently the spring housings are 2mm too tall (Academy presumably did this to avoid having to retool the larger M4 volute springs from their Shermans) but the return roller mounts are shortened to compensate, thereby making the overall unit the correct height.
As Steve Zaloga explained in a post either here or on Missing-Lynx, there's some work involved in getting them to the correct height and proportions. It's not difficult, but it is time-consuming and delicate. The courageous among us will attempt it...the less adventurous or the time-challenged will buy TMD's suspension set.
