Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Thanks Trevor!

I was a little puzzled by this pic. I've seen the photo off the 234/3 with late fenders too, I reckoned both to be repaired vehicles. Now I know better! I didn't know of the Cyber Hobby kit for the 234/1, but i'm glad they do one.
Another interesting picture is an 234/4 with a mix of old and new style fenders (see below, look at the hinges on the rear), it also has the 'toolbox' on the right side. This is the only pic I've found of a /4 with, at least partial, old style fenders.
This mix make me wonder about one feature of the 234/4 that has eluded me. Where is the fuel tank?
In all other 234's the fuel tank is placed at the rear driver's position. In the /4 there's no place for it due to the lengthened fighting compartment. The only place I can imagine there's some space left, are the rear end 'lockers'. The engine compartment has no space, besides, it would most probably interfere with the airflow for the cooling. The underfloor position is filled up with rods, driveshafts and other tranmission parts. And there's definitely not enough space in the fighting compartment. Also, there's no visible fuel filler cap anywhere on the vehicle. Perhaps this would too explain the fact that the rear 'lockers' seems to have a different locking mechanism, some kind of 'key' seems needed to open them.
If my assumption is correct, and that's a big 'if', it would explain why this /4 has this mixed fenders, being either a repaired or 'build as' vehicle, it should contain its fuel somewhere.
This also raises the question, would /2 and /3 with this late type fenders have this assumed different fuel tank lay out too? Distributing the fuel over two seperate 'externally mounted' tanks would certainly improve the surviveability of the vehicle. So that a design chance born out of nescessity became an improvement.
Anyone any thoughts on this one?
(I would sell my soul for the Panzer Tracts nr 13, ;-), I can't find it anywhere!)

Cheers,
Alex
