The Academy kit should build up very respectably out of the box, though photoetch headlight guards would be most welcome, of course. It has three gun tubes to choose from, and includes redundant M10 engine deck and tail plate parts, so a diesel M36B2 can also be built (though the kit's instructions don't mention this). And it includes the roof armor for the turret seen on M36B2s in postwar service. It also offers the optional front plate with ball mounted machine gun seen in postwar Asian armies (ignore the kit's instructions to use it on French machines, though).
Alas, AFV Club's kit cannot be built as a wartime US tank destroyer out of the box, as it is supplied only with the diesel engine deck and tail plate, a sad bit of economizing on the manufacturer's part. |
