Hi Alex - and everybody else.
I dont hope you will get disapointed about the Panzertracts book, course there is very limited number of pictures inside. The main focus is on the technical specifications. The best reference you can get is, in my opinion, the Museum Ordnance Special 24, which of course is very hard to get. Besides that, you may wanne try and look for the Ground Power issue 7, July 2000 and Ground Power issue 1, 1995. The first one being the best, but both are hard to find. There are also the option of buying to Photo Sniper from Kagero. It offers the best basic detail reference around. Allthough mend to be on all 4 variants, it is basically only dealing with the 234/4 at Fort Knox. BUT, there are many pictures usefull to all variants of engine deck, suspension etc. The tech intel vol 2 also offers some very good information on both the 250/9 (with some clear turret shots of the craddle without the gun) and the 234/1 and 234/2, mostly the latter.
Regarding the Aber etch set for the turret, it is not really good. It is supposed to be used for the Italieri kit, which is indeed wrong in many aspects, and the Dragon turret (at least the turret used for their 250/9) is so much better and dont need much work. Itried to build the Aber turret on the dragon kit, but with limited succes (maybe it is just my skills :o( )
I have just been checking Abers rear engine deck against the Dragon kit and here is some bad news. They just dont match at all - and me who wanted to open up to the engine compartment......
The Dragon kit of the 234/4 is so good (and I expect the 234/1 to be as well), that will be little need for anything else that clasps and clamps and likewise small details..
I beagan work on my the other week, and I am working on the engine bay right now, preparing it to recieve some kind of engine. It is fun work, but I am still not sure on how to open the rear hatch :o)
