Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Hi Ed,

I've build the Italerei kit some years ago. It contains dutch smoke grenade launchers and the FN machine gun. It doesn't contain though the Dutch antenna mounts and some other details on hull and turret. Nor has it the older style skirts as seen on Dutch A5/A6 vehicles. A PR person of the Dutch army told me that the use of those 2A4 type skirts is temporarily, they're just using up old stock. New style skirts will be introduced in due time, so you can build the kit with new style skirts and just wait for the Dutch army to follow your lead ;-)!
As far as I can see, I've had only a quick glance at the RVG kit, it's a simple reboxing of the Italerei offering with different decals. Can't remember if Dutch markings are included in this kit.
The legend conversion is meant to be used on the Tamiya kit but I guess that with a little work at least a number of parts can be used on the RVG kit.
I would though advise the Tamiya kit, I know it's the more expensive one, but it's worth the difference in price. More so as you're willing to invest in a Legend set too. AFV does make good (priced) workable tracks and the Eduard PE set is great too.
Looking at your name I guess you're Dutch. If so, and there's a army recruting office near by where you're living, try to get some photographic material and information there. These people are normally very willing to help.
With the deployment of Dutch troops to Afghanistan, and the worsening situation there, I would not be surprised if Leopard 2 tanks will be introduced there some time in the future. If so, perhaps some interesting paint schemes will evolve.

Cheers,
Alex
