Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

My vote would go for almost any of the "older and simpler" kits from the old days, you know before the Ipod or blackberry era; such as Tamiya M-41, M-48, or even the early panther or tiger. Also many of the Italeri kits which are still around. Maybe even a Monogram 1/32 kit? I feel that the simplicity of these kits put them in the category of quick, or weekend build. I can also see the point that the new much better enginered kits fall in the category as well. One more thing is that I also have a Tamiya M-48 about half way done with only the Eduard photo etch set added, so I would cast a vote for that one also.

Then of course you run into the dilema of determing what is "weekend"
in terms of extra goodies, or how much scratch or aftermarket detail will/should be allowed?

Could you allow one aftermarket item i.e. photo etch set, resin detailor update set, moderate scratch building? Or the skys the limit?
I am sure some of the more accomplished modellers out there could do in one or two weekends what would take me,or the average modeller a month or more to finish. Or will it just be (I'm almost afraid to say it here because I have seen recent threads on this subject, which almost every one has a different opinion of) Out Of Box?

I hope this dosn't make this a headache for you, but I wouldn't want to try to compete with a simple build against something that some one has finished already with hundreds of dollars worth of aftermarket and pounds of scratch built that took months (or years) to finish, but because it ends up on a list that we all agree on they enter it in the contest.

And one last headache. Will this have to be a current build or can this be something that has been on a shelf completed for YEARS as some of the contest entrys seem to be ? I understand that the idea is to get more kits displayed on this site, but probably mostly to motivate people to BUILD SOMETHING.I personaly would like this contest to have the clause that it should be if not current at least a relatively recent build. This of course (I think) should be on the honor system.

I hope this dosen't turn this into one of the 100 reply swirling dogfights that I have seen on this site. But there it is. Once again I really hope something you have thought of as something fun to do does not turn into a major pain in the back side for you.
