Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Paul,

Can I assume you wrote this reply just as I was adding my add-on list which included the T-55?

I defintely think the T-55 is a great choice, especially because it can be painted in a monochromatic paint scheme (i.e. single color) for those that don't like getting into the complex paint jobs.

But I will still stick with the Abrams as well since it's a super fun build and can also be done in a single color paint scheme.

Lastly, I don't know what you have in mind for the rules, but I'd recommend not having any. I'd say that a contestant must take a photo on the day the contest starts with the unstarted model and a date stamp (like a post-it note with the date on it) and photos of it on the last day of the contest, again with a date stamp.

If people want to add lots of detail, let them (good luck). Also, if you've got a few kits to give away, why not give away a kit for best model and another for best out-of-the-box? That way people who are worried about being swamped by the detailers won't be put off and not compete.

Another option is the Japanese style OOTB, meaning you can use anything in the box, but nothing else. That would be an interesting contest (but maybe not for a weekend).

Jim
