Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Hi guys,

The Thunderbolt VII(!) kit is the first with a new HVSS (working!) and a lot of other (detail) improvements and 'goodies', so don't mix it up with the earlier Thunderbolts Dragon did recently.
I've ordered mine today, I was eagerly awaiting this kit for some time. I do agree with Mike, the first decent M4A3 HVSS Sherman on the market! And long overdue too, I might add.
I'm gonna use this kit to build a M4A3 75W HVSS, a rather enigmatic variant of the Sherman but my personal all time favorit of the series. It was produced towards the end of the war along side the 76W and 105H A3 versions and was intended exclusively for the Pacific theater, as the opposing armour encountered there was still no match for the 75mm and the good HE capabilty of this gun was preffered over that of the 76.2mm and even over the unstabilised 105mm.
Information though is scarce, The Hunnicut book has one picture of these vehicles stored, awaiting the never to happen invasion of Japan. And another pic of a heavily modified command/radio tank during the Korean war.
Even Steve Zaloga, when asked, could not help me any further on the whereabouts of these Shermans. (Were they used, scrapped, converted, exported postwar, etc.?) If anyone has some additionall information on the history of this sub type I would be very happy to learn about it.

Cheers,
Alex
