The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too. |

Pawal,
The Dragon will build into a fairly decent kit OOB, but it is still a 1990's product.
The turret is outstanding. It already has the reinforced cheek. One of the few in styrene.
The upper and lower hull are modified Italeri products, but I believe the lower tub has been modified for the 1st Generation DML HVSS.
The bottom tub does not have the overide notches along the bottom edge but these can be carved/sanded out.
The upper hull lacks the complex cast look of the driver's overhead panel. It is too flat. Check the older Tamiya M4A3 hull for what it is supposed to look like.
The HVSS is OK. About a 6 on a scale of 10. Some very simplified areas, but look OK when built up. Not competition level, but presentable. At the time it was issued, it was the only available HVSS in styrene.
DML did not change the idler wheel mount. It is still the VVSS style. Rob Ervin, over at Formations, makes some adjustible replacements. These come in handy for tightening the DML indie tracks.
So, unless you have a severe case of AMS, you should be OK. If you do, buy the new DML Thunderbolt M4A3E8 and plop the 105mm POA turret on it.
Or, wait a few months, I figure DML will exploit their new HVSS suspension with a POA CWS H5/M4A3(105)w/HVSS Premium kit.
They have put a lot of effort into the HVSS suspension and getting it right. They will want to exploit it. However, it lacks the variety of, say, the Panzer II chassis.
Other than the kit's 76mm Gun tank, commercially viable kits include the 105 that saw service on Okinawa, the Korean War POA, and the Israeli M50/51 series.
Less so, are the recovery vehicles, Canadian M4A3E8's, some National Guard and MDA models; and one-off vehicles from all over.
hth,
