Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Dragon's new Panther G Late model supercedes their older kits, which used Gunze Sangyo molds with detail parts from Dragon. The older kits weren't bad at all, but the new one is superb. It has poseable suspension (the magic tracks must be cemented together, but the torsion bars can be posed on uneven ground if you wish). The revised Premium Edition of the Panther D also has separate torsion bar arms for uneven terrain.
Dragon's Tiger I kits have torsion bars that attach inside the hull like the original, and sort of work, though you'd be advised to cement them firmly in place, since the plastic if fragile. In any event, the tracks in the kit are not workable either. You will need to add your own Zimmerit coating to the late version.
Dragon's Premium Edition Porsche King Tiger is really nice, with all the aftermarket photoetch parts and metal barrel included and slide molded details like the commander's cupola, as well as clear parts for the periscopes. You will need to add your Zimmerit coating.
Best Panzer IV Ausf. J is Tamiya's. It depicts a mid 1944 production variant. Dragon's J is a November 1944 variant, with the swiveling commander's hatch and turret mounted grenade launcher, but it is rather basic in detailing. Neither kit has a workable suspension, though Tristar's could be substituted.
