Hey DJ,
When you say "support rollers" I take it you meant roadwheels. The reason for that is that the return/support rollers glue together then to the mounting units on the hull so they don’t move at all. The roadwheels have the plastic/poly inserts al-la Tamiya and yes they do seem to be very floppy until you sit the hull down flat. The rubber part of the wheel slips on and off without much trouble as far as I can tell (see photo)and from what I've heard the paint helps to hold them (there is no way to replicate the rings on the inside of the rim in any other way).
As for any issue with flashing on the rubber tires I can tell you the best way is to freeze them first then sand them down (they go very hard when frozen).
