Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Cost notwithstanding, the conversion you note would not be feasible without great effort. There are significant differences between the IS-152 and KV-14 (Su-152), most notably the engine deck - transmission access doors on the IS as opposed to the engine hot air vent on the KV. The sides of the IS-152 are not as sloped as the KV, the back wall of the IS fighting comparment is square, and the KV is more angular (narrower rear wall). A myriad of smaller details are different too, access hatches, vision and sighting ports, etc. Overall the KV-14 is much more squat (lower to the ground) when compared with the IS-152.

Compounding all this you would have to fix the lower hull of the DML kit if used as it is about 2 mm too short (see Osprey's Modelling the IS Heavy Tank). I read a review that the Zvezda/Italeri IS-152 had better upper hull detail while the DML lower hull/wheels were better and have kit bashed that arrangement.

I have built 3 EE KV-14s and its a nice build albeit crude with much flash. I have considered taking the upper hull and using a Trumpeter lower hull and kit bashing in that manner.

Although there is no rumor to the effect, I cannot believe that Trumpeter will omit the chance to market a KV-14. In the interim, recommend attempting to acquire the EE kit as it will save you much frustration.

Hope this helps.

John
