The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too. |

I started my EE kit before the Trumpeter kits appeared but it is probably the best option now. Actually Fabio Sacchi is doing exaclt this with one on ML now - look in the last week's post in the Constructive Comments DG.
Main issue is that Trumpeter has yet to make a KV-1S, which is the correct hull, but converting it is not a big drama as the angled rear deck is provided for in the Trumpeter hull sides (a hint of thigs to come?).
Invaluable reference is M-Khobbi Feb 2000, which has a good plan by Sergei Oreshin. Tankograd is planning a book on the SU-152 as well but whether it will appear before Trumpeter's KV-1S or SU-152 kits is anyone's guess.
The welds holding together the superstructure ("Interlocks and chamfers? Not on my vehicle!") are really crude in reality and I cut out 'V' channels between the plates and used Milliput to make suitably Russian welds in the gaps. There are a lot of bolts worth replacing too and you will really need new mesh intake covers, of which Aber's KV grilles are probably the best, if fiddly. |
