Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Damon,

I was just beginning the DML Stug IV with the Atak set as well, and same thing! DML didn't include the right suspension for the hull! Son of a gun! Now I have to drop $15 for the Tristar suspension. My Atak rear hull piece is warped, too. I believe I can fix that with some hot water, or so I am told.

As far as Atak vs Cavalier in general...I've completed Cavalier twice and Atak once, and prefer Cavalier. Why? I got the Atak set for the Tiger (p) from DML because it included a revised turret. All of the reviews I read said how great the Atak set was, so I got it. No one mentioned that the forward upper hull pieces had the zimm pattern in the wrong direction! How, you ask? All of the zimm sections should be laid in the resin sheet going in the same direction so the zimm pattern is correct...in this case it is a horizontal pattern. For the Tiger (p), some of the hull sections are placed on the resin sheet sideways, so the zimm pattern is vertical!

With that in mind, I do have the Atak set for the DML Tiger and three other Cavalier sets for other vehicles sitting on the shelf. I did an inspection and it looks pretty good. They even include two patterns, in case you want to replicate a tank from sPzA509 or 510 (I forget which one it was) that was photographed with a variation of the horizontal pattern.
