Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

If I might make a few more comments.

Although I do not own the On The Mark conversion (guess I should have bought it sooner), I have seen it and its pretty complete with not a lot of fabrication needed. I believe the Tamiya G was the only Panther available at the time. If I had an option, I would use that conversion over the VP Update.

My first iteration used the original Italeri kit and it was a disaster. The basic kit is not accurate and that was the source of considerable frustration when trying to use accurate scale drawings.
The second effort was based on the DML night-fighting Panther (No 9045) as seen in gray plastic in primer red in the photo below. The fixed axles where the drawback and my own lack of research - for example I used the utility box from the Italeri kit which blocks side the fuel tanks and battery . This effort was abandoned in favor of the Tamiya early Panther (No 35174) also seen in the photo below. If you use the VP Update, you will need to make custom bulkheads as those supplied by VP are for the Italeri Bergepanther kit (No 285) or any other D/A kit.

If I were to start all over, I would use the new DML smart kit G (No 6268) because it has the interior axles and would provide considerable depth as opposed to the resin floor, which you can see does not fit all that well.

I will attach a few other photos that may generate some ideas for others.

Again, thanks for the opportunity - this is my first time interacting with other modellers on this site. Trust the photos are usable.
