Great to see the article on the Berge, John. I'm in the process of doing almost exactly the same thing, using the DML Late Panther A hull, Verlinden conversion kit, Italeri kit and various other bits and pieces including the Tiger Model Designs crane. So far I'm up to the stage of adding the superstructure, using some very thin wood planking that I picked up somewhere along the way. I also have the Waldemar Trojca books on the Panther along with a few others and can recommend them as a good reference source. One area that I found very bare in terms of detail is the controls for the winch - they must have been somewhere, I suspect on the rear wall of the crew compartment, but nowhere can I find any confirmation of this, so I scratchbuilt my own for this area. I've found almost exactly the same things as you - ie the spade from italeri is almost perfect, no rear mount for the winch etc. There are a few other bits from the Italeri kit which are OK to use as well, such as the roller guides for the cable. I've also just about spent my limit on Evergreen strip, sheet, channel and angles ! I'd be very interested to see your Berge when it's finished.
