Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Hello Paul

I built Tamiya's Steyr (35225) about a year ago.
I.m.h.o. it is one of Tam's better kits, period. The overall fit is excellent; no issues at all.

Mine is built virtually OOTB with only the following adjustments:

-Kit mesh for front and side cooling vents is rather coarse, I replaced them with finer pe mesh from either Aber of Eduard, can't remember which.

-Seat covers and folded hood covered with single-ply paper tissue in water/white glue mix to get a more canvassy texture.

-Slightly muddied with a mix of lightly thinned down Vallejo Plastic Putty (nr. 400) with some fine sand mixed in.
Schminke pastels powder for dusting/weathering.

-Finished with Tamiya Acrylics and ADV Azimut decals for a 2.Pz.Div staff car, around 1944.

Thanks to another topic on this site (on Preiser figures) I got to Roll's site and ordered a Warriors figure set for my Steyr.

With the Part update set you will be able to finish this already very good kit into something even better.
And I too would have my doubts of putting the CMK engine in.
You would have to thin down the insides of the engine compartment parts very considerably to begin with. Going to be a very time consuming job with the thickness of the engine hood parts in mind.

Happy Modelling!
Jerry
