They're appropriate--the F/8 was based on a different pz. III chassis than the ausf F or G and those odd looking hatches are one of the distinguishing features. I think it is based on the Pz III Ausf J but my references are at home and I am at work--I'm sure another knowledgeable contributor could fill in the detail.
