Well, Tamiya's Tigers are quite respectable, but don't come with photoetch parts or interior bits for the engine grills (by the way, Tamiya corrected the turret shells on recent boxings of their mid and late Tigers, but there's no indication on the box of which kits are corrected--the initial and early Tiger kits were always correct). Buy a set of photoetch and a set of AFV Club workable tracks (they are amazing, and much cheaper than MK or Friul), and you'll have a very good Tiger. Aftermarket companies have resin inserts for under the engine grills, too, if you are so inclined.
Still, if you can track down a DML kit, it's cheaper and less work in the long run. Given the demand, Dragon will no doubt manufacture another batch before long, and they may even upgrade the tracks with hollow guide teeth as they did with their Panthers (not clear if the Whitman Tiger will have improved tracks or not, as DML's poster shows both types). For now, I'm subbing the AFV Club tracks on mine, as they have the hollow teeth. |
