The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too. |

Allan -
I can't speak for more recent releases of Academy's Panther of Jagdpanther but my first 'real' model at age 12 was the Tamiya Panther - for the princely sum of $20. It was motorized and I have it to this day though the gear drives are now broken. When Academy released the Panther and Jagdpanther, I was more than willing to get one of each. Their Panther was a direct copy of the Tamiya product though I feel the actual molds were used and the names changed where located on the sprues. They were exactly the same down to the individual, polyethylene tracks.
I also read Michael Benolkin's review with some interest. These kits are well regarded to have shape problems and dimensional inaccuracies, so when I saw they were being offered with different track (at least on the Panther, that I saw) it raised my brow. Additionally, the mantlet was altered to reflect a later version. I don't know if the Zimmerit finish is included but I'd hazard a guess it isn't - look at any 1/35th Tiger II or later-war Tiger I to support my assumption...
The hunt for info goes on. Sorry I wasn't more useful in this. |
