I am currently working on the same kit with the Voyager update. I went searching for the ModelGraphix book mentioned and it is very scarce. Fortunately, I found one at ModelPoint. It's rather expensive, but worth it from the pages I have seen.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
The brackets you mentioned should really be made from fine gauge wire, I am using .006" diameter brass wire and solderng them in after forming them to shape into the provided "bases" from Voyager. They will be Perpendicular to the side wall as well.
Just FYI, before you go to all the trouble, I know a modeler that had the CyberHobby set and he told me the side walls of the fighting compartment do not fit properly. You may want to check this out before assembling all those fiddly bits and then have something you can't use.
