The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too. |

I'm not too worried about the gluable soft plastics introduced in the last decade--most horror stories about bad vinyl involve the older, non-gluable variety, and even then it is usually isolated batches, and usually involves the black vinyl used for tires rather than the silver vinyl used for tracks. However, if you want to play it safe, a layer of Bare Metal foil (used to simulate bare aluminum on aircraft kits) around the wheel rim will provide a chemical barrier. You can glue the tires to it with CA glue.
The the most common problems with gluable soft plastic involve a bad reaction to thinners used in enamels and lacquers, which can dry out the plastic and cause it to crumble within days. Lots of horror stories involving Tamiya tank tracks in recent years, though I don't know if AFV Club uses the same formula for its plastic. Safest approach is to paint these materials with acrylics, and use water based washes for weathering the running gear. |
