Bare metal foil, a great idea! Had never thought of that one myself, I shall give it a try.
I too had some 'self destructive' Tamiya tracks and wheels (LRDG kit), and also an Italerei kit quitely commiting suicide in the box while living in the stash. The tires litterally had 'sunken through' the sprues! So I'm a little carefull since then with 'rubber' and replaces it when possible, or taking 'counter measures' when replacing is not an option. I shall also 'prime' the Centurion tires in acrylic paint, just to be on the safe side.
