Forums - Modelling / Kits |
The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too. |

Dragon likes to keep their cards close to the chest. The Asian hobby market is extremely competitive, and companies that announce projects too far ahead can get beaten to the market by other companies. Witness Trumpeter doing Bronco's entire Hotchkiss tank series first and glutting the market with cheaper versions before Bronco could get off the starting blocks. Bronco now releases "surprise" kits like the Comet, or kits that are already tooled and nearly ready for release (their British armored cars).
Dragon's only long-term announcements are variations of existing kits, and even these may never appear (their final production StuG IV and King Tiger come to mind). We hear about new Dragon kits only about two months from release, now. Will they do the 232 series? Who knows? But there are German subjects that nobody has ever offered in styrene, like an early Brummbar (apart from CMK's dismal conversion to the Tamiya chassis), and the SdKfz 8 12-ton halftrack. For that matter, while Tamiya's 232 is pretty good, their SdKfz 7 8-ton halftrack is in great need of replacement (and a new-tool version could tow all those nice Dragon 88's). |
