Yes, I agree. While I'd personally want to do a US version (very impressive model, by the way - makes me wish they did a kit even more) I'd have expected a resin kit at least.
And, yes, the "if it's German it sells" rule does seem to apply to modern stuff too. How many different Leopard and Leopard 2 kits are there? Not to mention the Gepard, Luchs, Fuchs, Wiesel, assorted MAN and Unimog trucks - the bias towards German armor seems to dominate post-war vehicles too. To a lesser extent, true, and I wish somebody'd hurry up and do a Fennek, but isn't there even a Buffel on the way from somebody?
