Duncan,
I believe Alex that to be correct, you may need the 6 axle car for a Tiger Tank. I assembled the Verlinden 1/48 scale "heavy" flat car for the Tamiya 1/48 scale Tiger then found the website Belcherbits.com who carries a Battalion line of rail cars.
They indicate the 4 axle car is rated for 50 tonne while the 6 axle is rated at 80 tonne. The site also includes completed 6 axle flat car with a Tiger tank load.
I don't know what scale you're looking for, but I haven't seen any 6 axle kits in 1/35, doesn't mean they don;t exist though.
