Hi Gerry
In my opinion Andrey's way is the best option. Sure, there's the Cavalier Zimmerit which gives You a great out of the factory look for your tank. I myself didn't purchase it because it looked too artificial to me. The Atak Zimmerit look's more natural and is easier to handle. The turret with the Zimmerit built on helps You to save a lot of time. But it's also limitng.
I experiened it with the Atak kit for the Jagdtiger with the Porsche runnig gear. Actually nine out of the eleven built were Zimmerit-coated but according to the pictures I got, the Atak kit worked only for the fourth "Porsche". On the other tanks the Zimmerit coat went higher up on the superstructure. Actually that was the reason for my buying the upgrade kit for the DML Porsche King Tiger, for it contained some extra material which was usefull to finish the Jagdtiger in the way I wanted.
Before I did that I tried first to do it with putty but I quckly realised my being unable to copy the pattern of the Atak Zimmerit. So I bought the other set.
I'll use the Zimmerit for the Tiger B as well. I guess it will take a considerable effort to put it into a worn, combatlike condition. This would be made easier by putty.
As I mentionned above Andrey's method is the best one to catch a natural looking Zimmerit coat.
But it's not easy. There's a lot of testing and training needed until you achieve the results wanted.
Concerning the barrel it's easy. Take the original barrel from the kit which is good enough and put a cover over the muzzle brake. This will look quite realistic and saves time and money.
Kind Regards
