Your confusion may stem from someone along the way saying that the Operation Cobra M4A1 was the "earliest" sherman with a 76mm gun....or that Cobra was the earliest such tanks were used.
Dragon kit #6408 is the one you want, the m4A1 Early version.
Or, you could do some sort of mishmash with the Tamiya M4 Early version (needs a different, older suspension), as the M32 was built on that as well (m32b1 or b2, I think).
