What's so fundamentally wrong with the old Italeri kit? It stacks up well against a number of much newer kits. Sure, there are small issues and it is a product of the 70's, but, along with the M47, it's one of the best of the older kits.
A little love and care and it's an absolute jewel. Try that with the Academy M3 or the Dragon BMP1. Those kits have fundamental issues that are nearly impossible to fix.

If we want a company to spend $500K or more on a new kit, lets have something not kitted before, please. Something that was made in numbers comprising at least two digits and something that was more than a "fag packet" sketch on a drawing board at the war's end. There are a huge number of unkitted vehicles and I think it ill behooves us, as a group, to want exisitng kits improved (especially basically OK ones like the Italeri Chaffee) rather than looking to model companies to show a little leadership and make something new.
