Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

I think you'd really have to go point-by-point with the kits to make a comparison (gee, whata great idea for an article). Both look pretty good, frankly, and both benefit from additional work.

A couple things on the Tamiya kit strike me as better than DML's:
* The roadwheels look better, with a light cast texture, and are closer to actual diameter according to what I've read.
* The muzzle brake looks better.
* The engine deck intake vents have detail under them. This is easy to add to the DML kit, but you'd don't have to do the extra work on the Tamiya kit.

I would just add that the DML kit tracks also have knockout pin marks on them. OTOH DML did a couple hull versions that are not (yet) available from Tamiya, and includes a Dushka in one version of their IS-2.

Whether the Tamiya kit is worth twice the money is a judgment call, not something anyone can determine from a review or set of measurements. I think it just depends on how you like to build.
