Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Hi guys,

I must agree with Gerald and Janusz, the DML kit is dimensional visual off. The T kt is on the spot.

Regarding kit crossing, I've made some measurements on both kits, and it will be a hell of a job, with the DML front upper hull portion being to short by several millimeters, and also the turret race and fender width is smaller.

Which is a pity, for I have all DML IS/ISU kits in my stash, and with Tamiya not that quick with capitalising on their moulds, I too hoped to make some DML 'inspired' variations on the T hull and running gear.

I also think that Tamiya will not be much interested in doing kits with such 'subtle' differences like those between the early and late IS2, cast versus welded bow, or doing a rare vehicle like the IS1.

I guess the most likely second T kit will be an ISU. Especially as swapping just a small gun parts sprue will make three visually very different new kits (ISU152/122/122S) in a instance and at a minimal investment.

The good news is that most of the PE I bought for the DML kits can be used on the Tamiya kit, as can of course the Friull tracks I have. The DML turret front casting and mantlets are also close enough too to be used with the Tamiya turret shell.

Cheers,
Alex
