I had the same choice and, based on all the reviews, went for the AFV Club kit. I don't have access to the Academy one so I really have no idea whether it genuinely is worse, but AFV's a nice little model and should build up well. There are, of course, dozens of sets that you can add to either. You can check reviews on this site or on Perth Military Modelling - both good sources that generally enable you to compare offerings from different companies.
