Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Both kits are rather poor and don't reflect well on either manufacturer.

If you build mostly OOTB or with some basic additional detailing, maybe the Academy kit is better as it has more detail. AFV's kit is sparsely detailed but the hull in particular is better if you want a super detailed project and want to get some aftermarket and correction parts.

Academy's kit has more interior detail, especially in the lower hull, although some of it is lame, like the ammo molded to the sponsons. AFV has no real hull interior detailig and basic turret interior details. Neither kit includes the gun elevation controls or sight, oddly. Academy includes a crude gun mantlet cover but the hole for hte barrel is crooked to the inside/breech so making your own cover is better using the plain mantlet. AFV's kit has a toylike shooting gun with springs to make it recoil.

Academy's hull is oversized and the kit was motorized, so they rearranged some of the hull rear angles to make the hull split in half easier to get at the batteries inside. The lower rear hull in particular is off. Academy's engine deck grills are not correct but their roadwheels are nice. AFV's hull is way better, although the grills still take some work. Its better than Academy's. The roadwheels are very poor though being very flat and shallow. The position of the return rollers on the hull sides is wrong in relation to the sponson overhang too.
