Forums - Modelling / Kits

The kits forum is for the discussion of model kits. Typically questions on availability or certain subjects and quality of existing kits are posted here. Short reviews are good here too.

Subject:  You need King Tiger final type tracks and matching sprocketsList thread.

The 17cm Grille used or would have used King Tiger final type tracks and sprockets with all the teeth restored. "Standard" sprockets had every other tooth removed and the tracks were of the A + B type with alternating smooth and toothed links. Final type track was all the same link and the teeth were reintroduced to the sprockets.

Hobby Boss does make the correct tracks, and at $8 a set, they are a good alternative. HOWEVER, it has been mentioned on Missing Links that the HB tracks DO NOT FIT the Trumpeter sprockets and that you can't really make them fit. An alternative is to use spare Dragon sprockets of the correct type. The HB tracks also, on the sprues, come with a bunch of seperate guide teeth for the old Tamiya King Tiger sprockets. Like most Hobby Boss tracks, they are old Link Model Workshop products from 10-15 years ago, so they are designed for the old Tamiya kits and not newer ones.
