| Hi Alan; So very little is known about the "E" series tank and the prototype that is modeled may have been very different if it went into production. I would guess (and this is just a guess). But sence the hull sides of the E 100 were not sloped like the Tiger II. A heavy cast, rounded shaped, side arrmor would make good sence. And as much trouble as it would be to repare a blown track on the E 100 as the Mouse I would wont to protect them as best as I could. And even though the side skirts on the Tiger II were sheet steel they were heavy enouph to detanate a hollow charge and it took two men to install them. So the Germans were relizing that mud guards could also be beefed up and become extra arrmor. My 2 cents. Steve |
